Information on Typhoid Fever

Typhoid fever is a life-threatening condition caused by a bacterial infection. Common symptoms include fever, stomach pains, headache, and weakness, among others.

You can get typhoid fever if you eat food or drink beverages that have been handled by a person who is shedding Salmonella typhi bacteria. Another way people contract this disease is when sewage contaminated with the bacteria gets into water that is used for drinking or washing food. With proper treatment (which involves antibiotics), the mortality rate is generally low.
