Rilonacept Drug Information

Rilonacept (Arcalyst®) is a prescription drug used to reduce inflammation caused by cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (CAPS), a rare and hereditary group of autoinflammatory conditions. Rilonacept is approved for use in adults and children as young as 12 years old. It is specifically approved to treat familial cold autoinflammatory syndrome (FCAS) and Muckle-Wells syndrome (MWS).

This medication is not suitable for everyone. For example, because it can weaken the immune system, rilonacept may not be safe for people who have a history of tuberculosis, hepatitis, or cancer. In addition, the medicine may not be safe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Your healthcare provider will need information on any other medical conditions you have -- in particular, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or infections of any kind -- in order to determine if rilonacept is the best drug for you. You should also tell him or her about any other medicines you are taking, including vitamins and nonprescription medications.
