Specific Warnings and Precautions With Ilaris

Some warnings and precautions to be aware of prior to receiving this medicine include the following:
 
  • Ilaris may increase your risk for developing potentially serious infections. It may also cause previous infections, such as tuberculosis, to come back. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any signs of an infection, such as:
 
 
  • You should know that medications that suppress the immune system, including Ilaris, may increase the risk for cancer.
 
  • Some people may experience a skin reaction at the site of the Ilaris injection. Contact your healthcare provider if you have skin symptoms that are severe in nature or do not go away. Some of the symptoms of a reaction at the injection site include:
 
    • Pain
    • Redness
    • Swelling
    • Bruising
    • Hives
    • Blisters
    • Bleeding.
 
  • There have been reports of serious and life-threatening allergic reactions to Ilaris. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
    • A skin rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • A fast or forceful heartbeat
    • Dizziness
    • Nausea
    • Swelling of the face and throat
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
 
  • People using Ilaris should receive all recommended vaccinations before beginning treatment. It is generally recommended that people receiving Ilaris not receive "live" vaccines. This is because live vaccines may be less effective during treatment. Also, you could become infected with the bacteria or viruses used to make the live vaccines (see Ilaris Drug Interactions).
 
 
  • This product is a pregnancy Category C medication, which means it may not be safe for use during pregnancy (see Ilaris and Pregnancy).
 
  • It is unknown if this medicine passes through breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or plan to start, discuss this with your healthcare provider prior to receiving the drug (see Ilaris and Breastfeeding).
