Polymyalgia Rheumatica Symptoms
The primary symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica are muscle pain and severe stiffness near the neck, shoulders, or hips. In some people, symptoms develop rapidly; in others, symptoms develop gradually. Other signs and symptoms include fatigue, fever, and weakness.
Polymyalgia rheumatica symptoms may develop rapidly -- in some patients, overnight. In other people, symptoms develop more gradually.
The primary polymyalgia rheumatica symptoms are moderate to severe stiffness and muscle pain near the neck, shoulders, or hips. The stiffness is more severe upon waking or after a period of inactivity, and typically lasts longer than 30 minutes.
Other possible symptoms may include:
- Flu-like symptoms, including fever
- Weakness
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
- Depression.
These possible symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica are not sure signs of polymyalgia rheumatica. Other problems can also cause these symptoms. Anyone with possible symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica should see a doctor so that the problem can be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible.
